Álvaro Joaquim de Melo Siza Vieira is a Portuguese architect and architectural educator. He is known internationally as Álvaro Siza and in Portugal as Siza Vieira. He was born on June 25, 1933, in Matosinhos, Portugal. Siza Vieira is best known for his work on the Boa Nova restaurant in Leça da Palmeira, Portugal, and the Malagueira Social Housing in Évora, Portugal. He has also worked on projects in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United States. Siza Vieira was awarded the Pritzker Prize in 1992. He continues to work and teach in Portugal.
