Biography:
Olafur Eliasson is a Danish-Icelandic artist known for sculptured and large-scaled installation art employing elemental materials such as light, water, and air temperature to enhance the viewer's experience. He was born in Copenhagen in 1967 to Elías Hjörleifsson and Ingibjörg Olafsdottir, both Icelandic immigrants. He had his first solo show at the age of 15, and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1989 to 1995. In 1995, he established Studio Olafur Eliasson in Berlin, where he currently resides. He has represented Denmark at the Venice Biennale and has had numerous solo exhibitions around the world. He is also known for his architectural projects, including the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2007 and the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Center in Reykjavik, Iceland. He is currently a professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.
