Biography:
, also known as Ahmed Ali Pasha, was a renowned Ottoman painter, soldier, and government official. Born in Üsküdar, Istanbul in 1841, he initially entered medical school in 1855 but later transferred to the military academy. This unique blend of medical and military experience sparked his interest in painting, particularly anatomy and perspective.
Under the patronage of Sultan Abdülaziz, Şeker Ahmed Paşa was sent to Paris in 1864 to study art under Gustave Boulanger and Jean-Léon Gérôme. He exhibited his oil paintings at the Paris Salon in 1869, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Upon returning to Istanbul in 1871, Şeker Ahmed Paşa was promoted to captain. Over the years, he rapidly advanced through the military ranks:
* Organized one of the first art exhibits in Istanbul in 1873, with the assistance of Pierre-Désiré Guillemet. * Exhibited his work at the Paris Salon in 1869.
