Alt, Beck & Gottschalck was a German company that manufactured bisque dolls in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company was founded in 1869 in Thuringia, Germany, and was known for producing high-quality dolls with elaborate decorations. Alt, Beck & Gottschalck was one of the leading manufacturers of untinted bisque dolls, which were popular in the United States and Europe. The company's dolls were made of fine white bisque porcelain without tinting, with features, hair, and cheeks painted. The hair was usually molded blond, but brown and black haired versions were also produced. The eyes were painted or glass. The glass-eyed dolls are sought after by collectors. Alt, Beck & Gottschalck dolls are often decorated with colored feathers, flowers, scarves, ribbons, combs, jewels, and luster ruffs about the bottom of the yoke. The hair was arranged in interesting and elaborate ways. The company's dolls were popular in the United States and Europe, and are highly prized by collectors today.
