Biography:
Antonio Fabrés y Costa was a Spanish painter and sculptor. He was born in Barcelona, Spain in 1854 and died in Rome, Italy in 1938. Fabrés studied at the Escuela de La Lonja de Barcelona and later moved to Rome where he became influenced by Mariano Fortuny's style of orientalism. He was a versatile artist who worked in various genres including oil and watercolor painting, sculpture, and deco orientalism. His work was internationally recognized and praised for its virtuosity and attention to detail. Fabrés lived in several cities including Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Mexico City, and again Rome where he died. He married Júlia Llausàs and had two daughters. In his later years, Fabrés's style became more naturalist and his subjects more poignant.
