Biography:

Antonio Álvarez Morán is a Mexican artist born in Puebla in 1959. He began painting at the age of 14 and had his first solo exhibition at the Casa de la Cultura in Puebla in 1975. In 1982, he received a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts and Design from Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP). He has participated in over 100 group exhibitions and had more than 50 solo shows around the world.

Artistic Career

His work focuses on Mexican culture, history, and traditions, often incorporating elements of surrealism and symbolism. Álvarez Morán's artistic style is characterized by the use of bright colors and a technique called “alvarezado” that mixes collage, encaustic, and oil. This unique approach has led to the creation of captivating pieces such as No es negocio, which presents an ironic view of death, and Retrato del retrato de Sor María Ygnacia del Espíritu Santo, a portrait of a nun carrying a rosary and the Bible.
