Biography:

Ben Osawe, also known as Benson G. Osawe, was a Nigerian sculptor born in Agbor, Delta State, Nigeria in 1931. He was one of Nigeria's most outstanding sculptors and a key member of the post-independence generation of Nigerian artists. Osawe was first instructed in art by his father, who was a sculptor at the Benin palace of Oba Eweka. He later trained at the School of Graphic Art in London in 1959 and at the Camberwell School of Art and Crafts in London from 1960 to 1965, specializing in sculpture. Osawe's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $1,000 to $100,000. He died in 2007.
