Biography:
Carles Gabarró is a Spanish painter born in 1956 in Barcelona. He studied at the University of Barcelona, where he earned his degree in fine arts in 1985. Gabarró's work explores themes of human condition, solitude, and death, often incorporating skulls, books, beds, and shipwrecks into his paintings. His style is characterized as expressive, meditative, and structured, with a focus on capturing forms that elude representation. Gabarró has been influenced by German neo-expressionism, Italian transavantgarde, and new Spanish painting. He has exhibited his work in various galleries and institutions, including the Galerie Maeght in Barcelona. In 1992, he experimented with printmaking, creating six etchings for the Galerie Maeght. Gabarró's paintings have been described as having a sense of tragedy and drama, yet also beauty and sensuality. He continues to work in his studio in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, where he has lived since 2015.
