Christiaan Julius Lodewijk Portman was a Dutch painter, photographer, and lithographer born in Amsterdam in 1799 and died in the same city in 1868. He studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam with Jean Augustin Daiwaille and Jan Willem Pieneman. Portman's style was based on that of the old Dutch Masters, and he became a teacher at the Rijksakademie and a member of Arti et Amicitiae.
