Biography:

The Nariño Culture, also known as Culture Nariño or Capulí, was an archaeological culture that existed between the 7th and 12th centuries in the highlands of the Andes cordillera, in what is now the department of Nariño, Colombia, at the border with Ecuador. The culture was known for its distinctive black on dark red pottery with rectilinear geometric designs, as well as its anthropomorphic pottery statues depicting women with wraps and men with loincloths and coca leaves in their mouths. The culture also produced high-carat gold jewelry with complex geometric designs. The Nariño Culture had a strong influence on the development of later Ecuadoran and Colombian cultures.
