Biography:

Daniel Joseph Martinez is a Los Angeles–based contemporary artist, known for his innovative and thought-provoking works. Born in 1957, Martinez grew up in Lennox, California, a working-class area of Los Angeles County near Los Angeles International Airport.

Early Life and Education

After high school, Martinez attended the California Institute of the Arts, where he received his BFA in 1979. During the 1980s, he worked as a freelance photographer and spent time working with Harry Gamboa Jr. and ASCO. Martinez's work can be found in public collections in the United States and abroad, including the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), and the Pace Foundation in San Antonio, Texas.
