Biography:

The Department of State's Office of the Geographer is a bureau within the Department of State's Bureau of Intelligence and Research. The Office of the Geographer is responsible for providing geographic expertise and analysis to support the Department of State's diplomatic efforts. The Office of the Geographer was established in 1941 and has been led by a Geographer of the United States since 1945. The Geographer of the United States is responsible for directing research and analysis on global issues primarily related to complex humanitarian crises, climate change, and other issues that require a geographic perspective. The Office of the Geographer also produces maps and other geographic products to support the Department of State's diplomatic efforts.
