Biography:

Dimităr Hristov, also known as Dimitar Zograf, was a prominent 19th-century Bulgarian painter renowned for his icons. Born in Samokov in 1796 to the family of Hristo Dimitrov, the founder of the Samokov iconographic school, he is considered one of the most significant figures in Bulgarian art history.

Early Life and Training

Dimităr was taught iconography by his father in his workshop and became an accomplished painter by the time of his father's death in 1819. He took over the leadership of his father's workshop, often working for the same monasteries and architects as his father. Dimităr educated his younger brother Zahari Zograf, who also became a notable painter.

Artistic Career

Dimităr's works are characterized by their exceptional quality, making them easily identifiable. He collaborated with his brother Zahari Zograf to decorate the main church of the Rila Monastery, the largest and most famous monastery in Bulgaria. Unlike his brother, Dimităr did not sign his works, but they are well-known for their excellence. Key Facts:
