Biography:
Enrique Recio y Gil was a Spanish painter born in Madrid in 1856 and died in the same city in 1910. He studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando and in the workshop of Francisco Jover. In 1881, he obtained a pension from the Diputación de Madrid to complete his studies in Rome. In 1887, he was appointed professor at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Bogotá, where he remained until 1895. In 1896, he returned to Madrid, where he continued to work as a painter. He specialized in costumbrist, orientalist and landscape themes, with figures from the surroundings of Rome and Venice. He was a professor at the Escuela de Bellas Artes de Bogotá.
