Early Life and Career

Romany became friends with the Swedish painter Adolf Ulrik Wertmüller in 1787, who introduced him to Alexandre Roslin and Peter Adolf Hall. In fact, some of his works were attributed to Hall in the past.

Artistic Style and Works

Romany's best works equal or surpass most of the miniaturists of his period. He had a free painting style and a great sensibility for rich and warm colors, exalting lustrous fabrics.
