Biography:
Frederic Ștefan Storck was a renowned Romanian sculptor born in Bucharest, Romania in 1872. He died in the same city in 1942. As a member of a family of artists, Storck's work is characterized by its Classical tradition and features portrait busts and allegorical themes.
Storck studied at the Bucharest National University of Arts under Professor Ion Georgescu and later pursued further studies in Munich. He became a Professor at the University of Arts himself and, together with Nicolae Vermont, Ștefan Luchian, and others, was one of the founding members of 'Tinerimea artistică' (Artistic Youth), a society devoted to Realism. Storck's sculptures followed the Classical tradition and featured portrait busts and allegorical themes. His later sculptures became highly stylized. Notable works include a statue of Mihai Eminescu, The Four Evangelists, marble sarcophagi at the tomb of Radu cel Mare at Dealu Monastery, and The Giant.
Storck's home, designed by his wife Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck, became the Frederic and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck Art Museum in 1951. This museum is a testament to Storck's artistic legacy and continues to showcase his works, as well as those of other prominent Romanian artists.
