Biography:
Agano Kumajirō, also known as Fukuda Kumajirō, was a Japanese artist born in Agano District in Tagawa-gun, Fukushima prefecture in 1847 and died in 1908. He was one of the leading publishers of the Meiji period and inherited the publishing firm from his father Gusokuya Kahei II which produced prints. He was also a publisher for the artist Kobayashi Kiyochika. Agano Kumajirō was known for his work in ceramics, specifically his tea bowl with fish scale design, Yatsushiro Ware, created in 1908.
