Biography:
Gijsbertus Derksen was born in Doesburg in 1870 and died in Arnhem in 1920. He was a painter, watercolorist, and draftsperson. Derksen received his first lessons from Hendrik Willebrord Jansen and later studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague and the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam. After his studies, he settled in Zelhem, where he married Heintje Gerdessen and taught at an evening school. He also worked as a painter and draftsman. Derksen's works are characterized by their detailed and realistic depictions of figures and landscapes.
