Gyokuen Bonpō was a Japanese artist born in 1348 and died after 1420. He was a Zen monk who painted as an avocation and was highly influential in the Muromachi period. He was known for his paintings of orchids and rocks, which were his favorite subject matter. His works can be found in various museums and collections around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Cleveland Museum of Art, and The National Museum of Asian Art.
