Biography:

Emon Zenchi, also known as Hōrinji Zenchi, was a Zen monk of the Sōtō sect of Zen in the late Edo period. He was a successor of Gentō Sokuchu Dharma and assisted Gentō in the restoration of the old rules. He lived at Hōrinji Temple in Settsu and Zen’ōji Temple in Mino. He also compiled Gentō’s ‘Kūgean roku’, Gentō’s analects. He excelled in poetry and is said to have been in contact with Rai Sanyō.
