Biography:

Ishikawa Tairo was a Japanese artist born in 1762 and died in 1817. He was a direct retainer of shougun and served as a security guard of castles. He was interested in western painting and studied it from illustrations of western books. He is the author of several western paintings, including portraits of Hippocrate and a European woman.
