Biography:

Iván Reyes Garcia, also known as Iván Reyes, was born in Havana, Cuba in 1971. He grew up in a family with scarce economic resources. Reyes first came to the USA as part of a touring musical group, giving him his first insight into the flourishing art world that was suppressed in Cuba. He received political asylum in the United States and began his artistic career in the Bay Area. Reyes' compositions are unified by a single source out of which experimental lines and forms emerge. His artistic abstractions convey both sides of upbringing: the energy and anger of graffiti, as well as the fractured propaganda of authority. Reyes' work has been exhibited in galleries and museums, including Google Arts & Culture.
