Jakob Elsner, also known as Jakob Ölßner or Jakob Ulßner, was a German painter and illuminator born in Nuremberg around 1460 and died in 1517. He began his training in the Upper Rhine, near Konstanz, and settled in Nuremberg, where he established his reputation as a portrait painter by 1490. Between 1505 and 1509, he worked for Elector Frederick the Wise in Electoral Saxony, illuminating, writing, and incurring material costs. Jakob Elsner is known for his portrait paintings and his work as an illuminator.
