Biography:
Jean-Baptiste Fortuné de Fournier was a French painter born on May 16, 1797, in Nice, France. He died on February 17, 1864, in Paris, France. His father was Luigi Antonio Fournier and his mother was Dominique Marie Lucrèce Salvi. De Fournier was primarily known for his watercolor paintings of interior views of castles such as Saint-Cloud, Fontainebleau, the Tuileries in France, and Villa San Donato in Italy. His works are valuable documents for studying decorative arts during the Second Empire period because they depict scenes that have largely disappeared today. Some of his artworks are preserved in French public collections at the Louvre Museum's drawing cabinet and the Musée du Second Empire in Compiègne Palace.
