Jean-François-Antoine Bovy was a renowned Swiss sculptor and medallist, born in Geneva in 1795 and died in the same city in 1877. He was the son of Jean-Samuel Bovy, a Genevan joaillier-mécanicien, and Carlotte Élisabeth de Choudens. Bovy's artistic career began as an apprentice in his father's workshop, where he learned to engrave punches.
