Biography:

Jerónimo de Lara, also known as Jerónimo Manrique de Lara, was a Spanish religious figure and inquisitor general. He was born in Valladolid, Spain in 1581 and was ordained as a priest in the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy. On January 7, 1630, he was appointed Bishop of Santiago de Cuba and served in this role until his death on June 22, 1644. During his time as bishop, he was known for his doctrina, erudition, and mecenazgo in the sede episcopal of Ávila. He was also the last Mexican president to have fought in the Mexican Revolution and was praised for his personal integrity and increasing confidence in the government through his anti-corruption policies.
