Biography:

Woobong, also known as Jo Heeryong, was a Korean painter born in Hanyang (today Seoul) in 1789. He was a painter during the late Joseon Dynasty and was known for his work in the oriental tradition, with some of his works showing characteristics written in a different format. Woobong was part of the Byeokosisa group and visited Mount Kumgang by the order of King Heonjong in 1849. He was banished to Imja island in Sinan county from 1851 to 1853. Woobong's work has been featured in various exhibitions and his work has been offered at auctions. Woobong passed away in 1866.
