Biography:
Joan Antigó, Honorat Borrassà, and Francesc Vergós were Catalan painters who worked together in the 15th century. Born in Girona in 1409, Joan Antigó died in 1452. He was a pupil of the Borrassà family and later took over the family workshop after the deaths of Francesc Borrassà in 1425, Guillem Borrassà around 1428, and Jaume, son of Francesc, in 1431.
The three artists collaborated on the Saint Michael retable from Castelló d'Empúries, which is now in the collection of the Museu d'Art de Girona. Antigó is also known as the Master of Banyoles due to his work on the retable of Nostra Senyora de l'Escala in the Monastery of Sant Esteve de Banyoles. Borrassà was born in Girona around 1424 and died in 1457. He was the son of Francesc Borrassà and one of the last members of the Borrassà family of artists.
The artistic style of Joan Antigó, Honorat Borrassà, and Francesc Vergós is characterized by their use of International Gothic elements, which was introduced to Catalonia by Lluis Borrassa. Their work can be found in various museums, including the Girona Art Museum and the Museo de Bellas Artes de Asturias.
