José Carlos Sequeira Costa was a renowned Portuguese pianist, celebrated for his interpretations of the Romantic repertoire. Born on July 18, 1929, in Luanda, Angola, he demonstrated exceptional musical talent from an early age. At eight years old, he moved to Lisbon to become the protégé of José Vianna da Motta, one of the last pupils of Frantz Liszt. Following Vianna da Motta's death in 1948, Sequeira Costa continued his studies in London under Mark Hambourg and later worked with Marguerite Long and Jacques Fevrier in Paris and Edwin Fischer in Switzerland.
