Biography:
José Guio, also known as José Guío, was a Spanish painter born in Pulpí, Spain in 1959 and died in Madrid, Spain in 2022. He joined the expedition of Alejandro Malaspina as a painter of botanical drawing and dissection in 1789, following the advice of the expedition's botanist Antonio Pineda. He was also known for his work as a painter of the Botanical Expedition to New Spain (1788-1803) and the Guantanamo Commission (1796-1802).
