He began studying drawing and painting at the age of 11 and continued his education at the Escuela de Bellas Artes Manuel Belgrano and the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes Prilidiano Pueyrredon.
Melé's artistic career was marked by his association with the Asociación Arte Concreto-Invención and co-founding of the Grupo Arte Nuevo. He was awarded a scholarship by the French government to study at the École du Louvre in 1948-1949, where he met influential artists Max Bill and Michel Seuphor.
