Biography:
Albert de Dion and Georges Bouton were French pioneers of the automobile industry. They co-founded De Dion-Bouton, the world's largest automobile manufacturer for a time, as well as the French sports newspaper L'Équipe. De Dion was a French aristocrat who invented a steam-powered car and used it to win the world's first auto race, but his vehicle was adjudged to be against the rules. Bouton was a French engineer who worked with De Dion to produce a self-propelled steam vehicle in 1882, which gave birth to the De Dion-Bouton company. Bouton was also the nominal winner of the 'world's first motor race' on 28 April 1887, when he drove a de Dion-Bouton vehicle 2 kilometers from Neuilly Bridge to the Bois de Boulogne. He was also the only competitor.
