It was established in 1710 under the patronage of Augustus II, Elector of Saxony and King of Poland, and is recognized as the first European manufacturer to produce hard-paste porcelain, similar to that of China and Japan. The company played a significant role in shaping the European porcelain industry, leading stylistic innovations and introducing new decorative styles. In 1991, the manufactory became the Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH, owned by the Free State of Saxony, and continues to be one of the world's leading porcelain manufacturers and a well-known German luxury brand.
