Karla Sofía Claudio Betancourt, also known as Karla Sofía Gascón, is a Mexican artist born in Mexico City in 1972. She is an interdisciplinary artist working primarily in illustration, text, photography, and video. Her practice is guided by research on ethnobotany and indigenous cultures. She is best known for her role as an actress in the Mexican television series 'La Academia' and for her work as a writer, having published the book 'Karsia, una historia extraordinaria' in 2018. In 2024, she won the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival for her role in the film 'Emilia Perez'. She is also known for being the first transgender woman to win the award.
