Biography:

Kenkō Shōkei, also known as Sekkei, was a Japanese Zen Buddhist priest and artist who was active in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. He was born in Kamakura, Japan, and spent most of his career at the major Zen monastery Kenchōji in the city. He was known for his ink paintings, which often depicted birds, flowers, and landscapes. He was a leading painter in eastern Japan around the former capital Kamakura and was particularly skilled in the Chinese-style painting known as 'suiboku' or 'sumi-e'. He died in Kamakura around 1523.
