Shuetsu Koda, also known as Koda Shûetsu, was a Japanese artist born in Tokyo, Japan in 1881 and died in 1933. He was a prominent figure in the field of lacquerware, particularly known for his works in urushi-e and togidashi techniques. Shuetsu was inspired by the Rinpa decorative style and chose his art name to honor Hon'ami Koetsu, a lacquerer, potter, and calligrapher who was a significant influence in the development of this style. Shuetsu's works often depicted traditional Japanese themes, such as landscapes, flowers, and beautiful women. He was highly regarded for his skill in creating intricate and detailed designs, as well as his mastery of the lacquer medium.
