Biography:
Naucydès or Naukydès (Ναυκύδης) is a Greek sculptor from Argos, active at the end of the Ve and the beginning of the IVe century BC. He comes from a family of sculptors: his father Patroclès and his brothers Daidalos and Périclytos were also active in this field. Naucydès created a golden and ivory statue of Hébé for the temple of Héra in Argos, a mineral image of Hécate, a Hermès, several statues of Victories, the portrait of the poetess Erinna, a ram sacrificing Phrixus (on the Acropolis of Athens) and a discus thrower at rest. Several Roman marble copies of the Discus Thrower have survived, including at the Vatican, the Louvre and the Liebieghaus in Frankfurt.
