Biography:

Nishimura Go'un, also known as Genjirō 源次郎, was a Japanese artist born in Kyoto in 1877 and died in 1938. He was the second son of a Kyoto dyer and became the pupil of Kishi Chikudō at the age of twelve. He is best known for his paintings of animals and studied under Takeuchi Seihō. He lived his life in Kyoto and was awarded the Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1937 for his painting 'Early Morning'. He was also awarded the Nikkan Sports Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1937 for his painting 'Fuyu no Keikan (Ravine in Winter)'. He was a student of the great Kyoto painter Takeuchi Seiho and is credited with advancing into modern times a style of lyrical realism.
