Biography:
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is the specialized international health agency for the Americas. It works with countries throughout the region to improve and protect people's health. Founded in 1902, it is the world’s oldest international public health agency and the regional office for the World Health Organization in the Americas. PAHO is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and has 35 Member States and four Associate Members in the region. Its mission is to strengthen national and local health systems, and to promote and defend the health of the peoples of the Americas. PAHO is also known in Latin America as the OPS (Organización Panamericana de la Salud) or OPAS (Organização Pan-Americana da Saúde).
