Paravoor Memana Kanakku Chembakaraman Parameswaran Chandrashekara Menon, also known as Sankaradi, was a veteran Malayalam comedian and character artist from India. Born in 1924, he had a long and illustrious career in the film industry, with over 700 films to his credit.

Early Life and Career

Sankaradi's early life was marked by a brief stint in politics and journalism. He was a member of the Indian National Congress and later joined the Communist Party of India (CPI). However, he returned his party card after the CPI split in 1964 and turned to theatre. His experience in theatre prepared him for his foray into films.

Film Career

Sankaradi's film career spanned several decades, with his debut in Kunchacko's Kadalamma. He remained an integral part of Malayalam cinema till his death. In 1968, he acted in Viruthan Shanku, the first full-length comedy in Malayalam cinema directed by P. Venu. Sankaradi won the state's best character artiste award in 1969-71. Awards and Recognition Sankaradi received several awards for his contributions to the film industry, including the Kerala State Film Awards for Second Best Actor in 1970 and 1971. He also holds the record for featuring in over 300 films with Prem Nazir.

Personal Life

Sankaradi was born to Memana Parameswara Pillai and Chankaradiyil Thoppil Parambil Janaki Amma in 1924 at Cherai, Kochi, India. He had four siblings and remained a bachelor for a long time till he married Sharada in the late 1980s.
