Biography:
Pedro Manuel Cedillo y Gómez (1683-1747) was a Spanish mathematician, engineer, and cartographer. He was born in Mérida, Spain, and studied mathematics and engineering at the University of Salamanca. He later worked as a cartographer for the Spanish Navy, where he made significant contributions to the field of navigation. One of his most notable works is 'Trigonometry applied to navigation and geography' (1718), which is considered a seminal work in the field of navigation. He also served as a professor of mathematics at the Royal Military Academy in Barcelona. Cedillo was a member of the Royal Academy of Sciences and was awarded the title of 'Academician of Merit' by the academy. He died in 1747.
