Biography:

Pedro Murillo Velarde (1696–1753) was a Spanish Jesuit priest, mathematician and cartographer. He is best known for his work on the Carta Hydrographica y Chorographica de las Islas Filipinas, also known as the Velarde map, which he created in collaboration with Nicolás de la Cruz Bagay, an indigenous engraver from the Philippines.
