Biography:
Pedro Venancio Gassis was a Spanish artist born to a French military engineer and diplomat who established a shipbuilding company in Pasajes de San Juan. He trained as a painter in Bayonne and Madrid and fought against the Carlists in the Third War while also pursuing landscape painting. He spent time in Venice and his paintings of the city were highly acclaimed for their Impressionistic style. He was a disciple of Martín Rico and won a third medal for Venezia at the National Exhibition of 1892. His artistic production was short.
