Biography:
Pietro Købke Krohn was a Danish painter, illustrator, theatre director, and museum director. He is remembered for his work with Otto Haslund on Johan Krohn's book Peters Jul. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, he was the son of sculptor Frederik Christopher Krohn and Sophie Susanne Købke.
Krohn studied painting at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Wilhelm Marstrand, Jørgen Roed, and P.C. Skovgaard. In 1871, he traveled to Germany and the Netherlands with Otto Haslund and Julius Lange to learn about the latest reproduction techniques. He later became a member of the Danish artists colony in Rome, associating with notable artists such as Thorvald Bindesbøll, Hans Friis, Axel Helsted, Carl Thomsen, and Kristian Zahrtmann.
Krohn illustrated several children's books, including Peters Jul, Billedbog for Børn, and Børnehistorier. He also worked as a costume designer at the Royal Danish Theatre from 1880 to 1893, where he directed operas. Additionally, he was the artistic director of the Bing & Grøndahl porcelain factory from 1885 to 1892 and later became the head of the Danish Museum of Art & Design.
Krohn's legacy extends beyond his artistic work. He was a dedicated professional who contributed to the development of Danish art and culture.
