Biography:
The Real Fábrica de Cristal de La Granja, also known as the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja, was established in 1727 in Real Sitio de San Ildefonso (Segovia), Spain. It was founded by Philip V of Spain to manufacture float glass for the windows and mirrors of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, which was under construction in the 1720s. The factory was built near an abundant supply of wood in the Sierra de Guadarrama, which provided fuel for the ovens. The factory was known for producing high-quality crystalware, including Venetian-style glass, and was active until 1847. The factory is now a museum and a cultural heritage site.
