Biography:
Sebastian de Cobarrubias Orozco was a Spanish lexicographer, cryptographer, chaplain and writer. He was born in Toledo, Spain in 1539 and died in Cuenca, Spain in 1613. He is best known for his etymological dictionary, Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española (Thesaurus of Castilian or Spanish Language), originally published in 1611. He was also a cryptographer and wrote the Tesoro de la lengua castellana o española. His father was Sebastián de Horozco, a New Christian, and his mother was Maria Valero de Covarrubias Leyva, from an Old Christian family of great prestige.
