Biography:

Sebastião de Goes was a Portuguese bronze caster who produced astrolabes, a tool used by navigators to determine latitude and time. He was active in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. His astrolabes are highly prized by collectors for their craftsmanship and rarity. One of his astrolabes was sold at Christie's for $12,500 in 2018. Not much is known about his life, but it is believed that he worked in Lisbon and may have had a connection to the Portuguese navy. His astrolabes are considered to be among the finest examples of Portuguese bronze casting from this period.
