Segundo Vicente Martín y Soler (Valencia, 1754 - San Petersburgo, 1806) was a Spanish composer, known as the 'Mozart of Valencia'. He was a contemporary of Mozart and was one of the most important composers of the Classical era. Martín y Soler was a prolific composer, writing over 80 operas, symphonies, chamber music pieces, and sacred works. He was particularly known for his operas, which were performed in the most important theaters of Europe, including the Burgtheater in Vienna, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow. Martín y Soler's most famous opera is 'Il burbero di buon cuore' (The Good-Hearted Grumbler), which was premiered in Vienna in 1786 and was a great success. Martín y Soler was also a pioneer of the Italian opera buffa and was one of the first composers to use the recitative style in his operas.
