Biography:
Shivalal is an Indian artist who was active in Udaipur during the second half of the 19th century. He was the son of Tara, another well-known painter from the same region. Shivalal's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with one of his most notable works being 'A LARGE PAINTING OF MAHARANA SAJJAN SINGH IN PROCESSION WITH HIS COURTIERS', which realized 30,240 USD at auction. He is known for his paintings in watercolor and is also known to have overpainted photographs, as seen in 'Photographer unknown, overpainted by Shivalal | Portrait of Jaswant Singh II of Jodhpur (1873–1896)'. Shivalal and his brother, Mohanlal, worked together in the final phase of painting in Udaipur under the rulers of the region.
