Biography:
Silviu Oravitzan is a Romanian painter, born in 1941 in Ciclova Montană, Romania. He is known for his geometric abstract art, which is deeply rooted in Byzantine Art and the religious art of Orthodox Christianity. Oravitzan's use of light in his works is considered to be profoundly religious, recalling 'the primordial light'. He has had numerous exhibitions and his works can be found in museums and private collections in Romania, Great Britain, France, Germany, Sweden, USA, and many other countries. Oravitzan is also known for his special use of light in a way that recalls 'the primordial light' and his opposition to famous painters of his time such as Horia Bernea and Sorin Dumitrescu. He has traveled to Greece, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, and other countries for inspiration. In 1985, one of his most significant solo exhibitions took place at The Dalles Hall, Bucharest, Romania, which caused great scandal among the enemies of Romanian art and was closed. From 2005 to 2015, he was involved in the activity of The Romanian Institute of Inter-Orthodox, Inter-Confessional and Interreligious Studies.
